Victorian terrace, Hackney

A bright, open kitchen located in an East London Victorian terrace, this Uncommon Projects design works in harmony with the space, a striking extension by Kieran Wardle Architects offering the perfect landing spot for UP’s ultra-minimal cabinetry. Precision crafted birch ply doors are finished with a tough, easy to maintain matt white laminate with complementing oak veneered birch ply carcasses chosen for durability and a touch of warmth. Visually pleasing, clean white Corian worktops intensify the room’s abundant natural light – an elegant and understated material palette.

Our clients were set on making the dining area a feature, roomy enough to accommodate large groups whilst ensuring that everyday dinners feel cosy and unfussy. Placing both the property and lifestyle of the homeowners front and centre, Uncommon Projects fully bespoke approach resulted in a defined space able to accommodate ten people comfortably, dinner parties and quiet nights in enhanced by views across the leafy garden. Additional, casual seating arrives in the form of a smart, 4-meter-long storage bench. Drawing a line between the front and rear of the kitchen, this custom piece plays a dual role, providing much needed extra storage via its handy toy box lids.

At the opposite end of the room, full height cabinetry houses kitchen appliances and a central island with Bora hob serves as a focal point, fostering social interaction. Every detail considered, a discreet book case leads into the adjoining room, a practical piece creating a boundary between the rest of the house and providing the homeowners with a space to personalise their new kitchen.
