We used the change in ceiling height to define the two zones: a vaulted ceiling above the dining area and a lower flat ceiling above the kitchen. Large openings connect both spaces to the garden and bring in generous natural light. We placed the hob on the island to encourage social interaction while cooking, using a Bora Pure venting hob to remove the need for an overhead extractor. The sink runs along the wall beneath oak-veneered plywood wall units with sliding doors, recessed into the brick pier to the right. This move ties the cabinetry directly into the structure.
We designed the island to look good from every angle. Cupboards, drawers and open shelving address each side, and a small breakfast bar provides space for two stools and casual meals. Tall units beside the sink hold the ovens and pantry, while a matching run opposite conceals the fridge and freezer, framing the entrance to the garden room.
The palette is simple and enduring. Classic navy cabinetry pairs with warm oak veneer and crisp white Corian worktops to create a calm, balanced space that feels completely at home with the architecture.
